Description
(Original Caption) Boris Pasternak (above), a Soviet writer whose best-known novel is banned in Russia, won the $41,250 Nobel Prize for literature Oct.23rd. The Swedish Academy of Literature cited Pasternak for his "important achievements in contemporary lyrical poetry and in the field of the great Russian epic traditions". The citation made no mention of the Soviet ban on his best-selling novel, "Dr.Zhivago". It is uncertain whether he will be able to come here to receive his prize Dec.10th. Pasternak is the first resident of Russia who has ever won the literature Nobel Prize.
