(Original Caption) 9/14/1961-Joplin, MO: Mickey Mantle, 18, shortstop of the Joplin farm in the Western Association, may become one of the all-time greats of the New York Yankees if he lives up to the buildup given him by Yank manager Casey Stengel. Boasts Stengel: "I believe that Mantle is our biggest prize, and that he is the number one kid ball player in the professional game. He is a switch hitter, built big, as fast as you would want him to be, and our latest figures show Mantle batting .393, with 116 runs batted in for 111 contests."
