Artist's Description

Oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau demonstrates his latest invention, the Aqua-Lung, with the help of Ethel Janney of Cold Spring Harbor, and Commander Douglas Fane, Chief of the US Navy underwater demolition squad. The Aqua-Lung allows divers to breath at depths of 200 feet without above water connections. The demonstrate took place in the swimming pool of the SS Liberte oceanliner.Image provided by Getty Images.
