Artist's Description

View of the Storm at Scarborough on the 17th February 1836.' Shipwreck off Scarborough in Yorkshire: 'when Ten out of a crew of Fourteen were drowned by the upsetting of the Life Boat'. The lifeboat was launched through very heavy surf after the sloop 'John' of Aberdeen was seen to be in distress. A huge wave knocked the lifeboat over and the crew were thrown into the sea.
