(Original Caption) 12/6/1957-Cape Canaveral, FL- Flames erupting from its base, the Vanguard missile starts to fall over on its side after exploding two seconds after takeoff. The 72-foot missile, carrying a test satellite, rose about four feet before the blast rocked its first two stages.
