Artist's Description
(Original Caption) 3/14/1956-Philadelphia, PA- As a gauge in comparison of size, Philco's new sub-miniature M-1 transistor is shown here on the face of a ten-cent piece. The M-1 is believed to be the smallest transistor yet developed, but it operates in the audio frequency range and performs the functions of larger size transistors. In spite of its tiny size, the transistor is covered by a metal can which is hermetically sealed by welding to protect the device from moisture and other contaminants.
