The Pied Piper of Hamelin', 1881, (circa 1930). Illustration to a folk tale: a rat-catcher, dressed in multicoloured ('pied') clothing, lures away the children of the German town of Hamelin with his magic flute, after the townsfolk refused to pay him for ridding them of rats.
