Description
The death of the Prince d'Orange, Florence, Italy, 1530 (1882-1884). Philibert of Chalon, Prince of Orange, commanded the armies of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in Italy. He was killed in the latter stages of the Siege of Florence, shortly before the city fell to his troops. The siege brought an end to the War of the League of Cognac and ended the Republic of Florence, with Alessandro de' Medici installed as Duke of Florence.
