Artist's Description

circa 1895: Passers-by and horse-drawn traffic in Jamaica Street, Glasgow. Glasgow flourished during the industrial revolution because the Clyde was dredged and widened so that sea-going cargo ships could travel into the heart of the city and the docks. The city profited from tobacco, sugar and cotton exports and developed a world-famous shipbuilding industry. (Photo by Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
