Artist's Description

(Original Caption) 1/30/1923-Clark County, IL: View of Illinois' greatest oil gusher which has just been opened in Clark County. When the well was shot the oil went into the air for a height of over 300 feet. An oil boom has now started in that section and many more wells are about to be sunk. William Ryan of Vermillion County is the owner, and his faith that oil could be located in that section has been justified.
