Communist gunners shot down a U.S. Marine A-4 Skyhawk during fighting on January 23rd near Khe Sanh along the Cambodian border. The pilot, Major William Loftus of Chicago, Illinois, parachuted safely (top photo) near the Leatherneck's defensive perimeter and was helped out of his harness a few minutes later.(Photo by Bettmann Archive/Getty Images)
