Artist's Description

Soviet conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky (1931 - 2018) conducting the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio at the London Promenade Concerts, or Proms, at the Royal Albert Hall, London, 18th August 1966. This was the first appearance by a non-British orchestra at the proms. The concert comprised works by Britten, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky. (Photo by Erich Auerbach/Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
