Artist's Description

(Original Caption) New York Yankee slugger Roger Maris stands with his favorite weapon, a baseball bat, next to the batting cage at Yankee Stadium August 16th, prior to the Yankee Chicago White Sox game here. During the first three innings of play in the game Maris hit two home runs which brings his season total to 48 homers. Both homers came off southpaw Billy Pierce and were the 12th and 13th home runs which Maris has hit off White Sox pitching this season. Maris is now 16 games ahead of Babe Ruth's pace when he set the record of 60 home runs in 1927.
