(Original Caption) With the hope of overcoming "fading" and static, the greatest obstacles to successful broadcasting, the engineers of the General Electric Company, Schenectady, N.Y., are experimenting on the combination of the present vertical wave with the recently discovered horizontal polarized waves. The above photo shows the experimental short wave radio transmitter built by Chester W. Rice of the General Electric Company.
