(Original Caption) Pullman Porter Philosopher Lectures before College Students. Boston, Massachusetts: John Baptist Ford, Pullman porter who lectured at Harvard and at Dartmouth. Relating his many experiences as a Pullman porter, Ford says his best motto is, "You can catch more flies with molasses than with water." He explained how kindliness and willing service to patrons of the Pullman cars won him more than ordinary recognition. Regarding tips, Ford said the average tip was a quarter, and that a month's gratuities sometimes totaled above the eighty dollar mark.
