Description
(Original Caption) Girl Drummer Boy In Civil War Kept Her Secret 58 Years. For fifty-eight years, Mrs. Anna Glud of Oakland, California, nursed the secret of a war experience that is almost beyond parallel in our history. On her sixty eight birthday recently, she related her amazing story of how during the Civil War, she had cut her hair short, donned the uniform of a drummer boy, and went to the front as "Tom" Hunley, at the age of ten. Because her family was divided on the war question, she had not barred her story before. Her mother was a Southerner and her dad from the North. Two persons had known her secret, her father Jeremiah Hunley, and General Grant, in whose charge her father had placed her. She served with her father for two years.
