Artist's Description

(Original Caption) Mark Spitz, upset earlier in the International meet's 100-meter freestyle, had an opportunity to eclipse his own world mark in the 100-meter butterfly until he spun too slowly into the last lap. The Olympian from Indiana University was clocked in 56.45 seconds, off his international mark of 55.60.
