Map of stellar constellations, 1775. Constellations of Perseus carrying the head of Medusa, Andromeda chained to a rock, and the Triangle (Triangulum). In Greek legend, Perseus was the son of Zeus and Danae. He slew Medusa, chief of the Gorgons, and rescued Andromeda who was chained to a rock and destined to be devoured by a sea monster.
