(Original Caption) California Congressman James C. Corman (D-22nd) announced 1/8 the awarding of a $21.4 million contract to Lockheed-California for the production of the 375 AH-56A Cheyenne helicopter for the Army. The craft is shown during a recent flight test. The 250 mile-an-hour craft is designed as a fighting machine, combining the hovering capability of a helicopter with the range of a fixed-wing aircraft, and will carry heavy armament including a 30mm automatic belly gun, nose turret grenade launcher and 6 wing pylons with rockets and missiles.
