Artist's Description

(Original Caption) Russian Invents Electric Apparatus Which Mysteriously Reproduces Music. Creating beautiful music out of the air, without wires, without a sound box is the extraordinary discovery of M.Leo Theremin, professor of Physics at Leningrad, Russia. He recently gave a demonstration of his apparatus in Paris. The basis of his invention is the proper synchronization of condenser and tube, arranged in musical scale. Variations of a magnetic field cause the music and these variations are produced by approaching the hands at varying distances from a small metal rod and loop. The above photo shows Professor Leo Theremin playing the instrument in Paris.
