Description
King John signing Magna Carta, 1215 (c18th century). Magna Carta, also called Magna Carta Libertatum, is an English charter originally issued in 1215. The charter limited the rights of the monarch and is regarded as being the first step in establishing the rule of constitutional law that applies today. King John was compelled to sign it at Runnymede in the face of a baronial revolt. (Photo by The Print Collector/Print Collector/Getty Images)
