(Original Caption) 3/7/1962-New Jersey Coast- Wind-whipped waves inundate homes on the New Jersey shore, March 7th, as seen in this aerial view from a Coast Guard plane. Seashore villiages were reported completely isolated and major roads flooded or blocked as the coastline was under the impact of the worst storm in 20 years. Up to 1,000 persons were reported evacuated from their homes and Governor Richard Hughes sent an urgent appeal to President Kennedy asking for Federal assistance.
