Tokyo, Japan: Crown Prince Akihito, 18-year-old heir-apparent to the throne of the Emperor of Japan, proudly wears the "Grand Order of the Chrysanthemum," Japan's highest medal of honor. The Crown Prince is in line to be Japan's 125th Emperor and "symbol of the state and of the unity of the people, deriving his position from the sovereign will of the people." Akihito was proclaimed heir to the throne in impressive ancient ritualistic ceremonies (November 10.) November 14, 1952.
