Description
Ivory tryptich, 1470-1500, (1881). Etching of a small small portable altar of carved ivory, made in France in the late 15th century. The three hinged wings are decorated with fleurs-de-lis, with the central panel depicting two standing angels holding a large disc, recessed from the back, which is now open. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum). [Sampson Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington, London, 1881]. Artist D Jones. (Photo by The Print Collector via Getty Images)
