(Original Caption) Monitors for incoming and outgoing signals are observed by a technician at the new TV transmitting station for the BBC, at London's Crystal Palace. The control room looks out into the transmitter hall (background), which has two picture transmitters on the left and two sound transmitters on the right. The building housing the station is built into a hillside. It replaces the BBC's Alexandra Palace station and marks the return of TV to the Crystal Palace, where first regular video transmissions were made nearly 20 years ago. The new station went into operation last month.
