Artist's Description

Mrs. Louise Snee leads her Third Grade class in the Pledge of Allegiance at the Fort Myer Elementary School in September 1954. Although the public schools of surrounding Maryland and Virginia were segregated, Fort Myer and another school on a military post were integrated by order of the Department of Defence.
