Artist's Description

The Langley Aerodrome No. 5, built by Samuel Langley, made it's first flight on May 6, 1896. The unpiloted, steam-driven plane was launched over the Potomac River because the Aerodrome No. 5 had built with no landing gear in order to reduce it's weight. | Location: Near Quantico, Virginia, USA.
