Artist's Description
(Original Caption) 1974-"I guess we're trying to say that it's all right to be different. Everybody's apparently afraid now to be different...If we have anything to say on the show, it's 'be yourself.'" That, explains Marlo Thomas, is the underlying theme of "Marlo Thomas and Friends in Free to Be... You and Me," a special to be shown on the ABC Television network Monday, March 11. In this scene from the show, she performs with Harry Belafonte. "I have a friend who is a sculptor now, whose father objected to his playing with dolls when he was a kid, and turned him into an engineer," Miss Thomas says. "Now he's playing with dolls, as a sculptor, and doing very well." Filed 3/5/1974
