(Original Caption) 12/15/1953-New York:Tiny,new transistors, which take the place of conventional tubes,mark a new step in the progress of experimental pocket-sized radios.Developed by RCA the receivers amplified signals up to 10 megacycles is extensive field tests.The smaller set weighs only a pound and has an audio output close to that of portable tube radios.The larger receiver with its 4x6-inch speaker provides fidelity comparable to a table model radio.Six miniature flashlight batteries will keep it playing for about 500 hours.
