Description
Engraved ticket for the Coronation ceremony of George III (1738-1820) in Westminster Abbey', 1761. George succeeded to the throne when his grandfather, George II, died suddenly on 25 October 1760. The search for an appropriate wife intensified. On 8 September 1761 in the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, the King married Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818), whom he met on their wedding day. A fortnight later, both were crowned at Westminster Abbey. Engraving after George Bickham the Younger (c1706-1771). From The Connoisseur, VOL. XVI, 1906.
