Changthang this is a high altitude plateau; from Eastern Ladakh it stretches 1600km east into Tibet with average elevation of 4200m to 6000m. All of it is geographically part of Tibetan Plateau (The roof of the world if you can remember text of geography book from school). It is amongst the highest inhabited lands in the world.Chanthang is most famous for its gigantic lakes (Moriri, Pangong etc) and it nomadic people called Changpa. Changpas are historically only inhabitant of this plateau, raising mainly yaks and goats. They live in a tent like dwelling called Rebo (or Ribo) which is made up purely of the black hair of matured yaks.The region is vast, winters are Arctic-like, and obviously geography varies a lot. So, I will stick the region that I covered which is from Chang La to Pangong Tso.
