(Original Caption) 6/3/32-Cairo, Egypt: Piers under construction for the temporary railway needed to haul in the immense volume of stone required in the construction of the great Aswan Dam across the Nile River. The dam, which is to be increased 29 1/2 feet in height, will permit irrigation and cultivation of 7,000,000 acres of soil now lying barren for a part or all of the year. The reservoir will hold 5,000,000,000 cubic meters of water from the Nile, or twice its present storage capacity.
