Description
(Original Caption) History Repeats. Children of soldiers in the 22nd Infantry Regiment, now stationed at Butzbach, ancient Roman housing project. In the background are the homes of dependents of the GI's serving here. On the very same spot -- more than 1,800 years ago -- the families of the famed 22nd Roman Legion lived in a "government" housing development. Like American dependents today, the wives and children of Roman occupation troops were brought to Butzbach from Rome at the expense of the government. In addition to these facts, German archaeologists discovered that the insignia and mottoes of the ancient and modern soldiers camped here are amazingly similar. Roman ruins were unearthed when the U. S. army began work in new homes for the families of GI's in the area.
