Description
(Original Caption) Yankee Inventor Of The Depth Bomb And His Wife. It has become known within the last few days that the inventor of the famous depth bomb which spelled death to the submarine menace was invented and perfected by an American Chester T. Minkler of Newport. The Navy Department now gives full credit to Mr. Minkler for the devising of the bomb and has rendered to him the credit due. Chester Minkler is an American as they make them. He was born in Newport, July 1, 1882. His family the Taylors were among the very earliest settlers in Rhode Island. His grandfather's uncle. William Ellery was one of the singers of the Declaration of Independence. Minkler is a Yankee, tall, slender, but wiry, his thin feature crowned with thick dark hair--his eyes are grey. Explosives have always interested him. He is attached to the Torpedo station at the Newport Naval Training Station. Fro
