Artist's Description

Barn Elms, Richmond upon Thames, 19th century. For many years the Kit-Cat Club (an 18th century political and literary club) met at Barn Elms. At that time, the area was rural. It has since become part of Greater London. The Georgian house was burnt down in the 1950s. More recently the site has given over space to the Barn Elms Wetlands Centre, with a sports centre and a boathouse. (Photo by The Print Collector/Print Collector/Getty Images)
