Arrival of Dr Brydon at Jalalabad with news of 16,500 British deaths, First Anglo-Afghan War, 13 January 1842, (1900). Engraving after 'Remnants of an Army', a painting of 1879, showing William Brydon arriving at the gates of Jalalabad in Afghanistan as the only survivor of an evacuation of British personnel.
