Artist's Description
(Original Caption) How Football Grew at Annapolis. Annapolis, Maryland: The midshipmen on this 1894 football team at the US Naval Academy at Annapolis were quite a mild-looking bunch, but they probably had their rough moments, as evidenced by the lad with the bandaged head at right, first row. Top row, left to right, Roscoe Spear; Lieutenant Commander Charles Webster, USN (retired.). Middle row, left to right, Clarence England; Leland James; Admiral Joseph M. Reeves, USN (retired), now in charge of the Lend-Lease Liaison Office, Office of the Secretary of the Navy; A.G. Cavanaugh; and G.E. Gelm. Front row, left to right, W. Pitt Scott; Winston Churchill, American novelist; and Captain Charles S. Bookwalter, USN (retired.) Iss
