(Original Caption) 7/7/1965-Da Nang, South Vietnam: United States Marines of the First Battalion, Ninth Regiment, storm ashore from landing craft during reinforcement of the key Da Nang airbase. Some 8,000 leathernecks were landed at Da Nang and Qui Nhon as a persistent Viet Cong offensive threatened to cut South Viet Nam in two at the 15th parallel.
