(Original Caption) With blazing eyes Isaac N. Mills counsel for Leonard Kip Rhinelander, millionaire society solon, asked this question of the jury as he summed up in the trial of the young man's attempt to free himself form a colored girl. And clasping and unclasping her hands Alice Rhinelander (left) and her mother kept their gaze on Mills throughout most of the day's oration as he deplored mating of white and colored people and intimated that Rhinelander was better off dead than married.
