The Marines have not take an active part in the Alcatraz battle as a unit although their leader veteran, Warrant Officer C.L. Bukner, became a one man assault force yesterday. Buckner, holder of the purple heart and silver star, fired round after round of anti-tank grenades against the cell house. He also daringly climbed to the roof of the cell house and dropped fragmentation bombs through holes which guards drilled in the roof.
