A State-wide broadcast over Radio Station WDNC in Durham opening the $250,000. campaign drive of the James E. Shepard Memorial Foundation, Inc., in honor the late founder Dr. James E. Shepard. Seated left to right is James T. Taylor, campaign director and North Carolina Representative and Robert M. Gantt, trustee of North Carolina College at Durham, seated. Other speakers on the August 20th, 1949 program included North Carolina Central alumnus Asa T. Spaulding, actuary of NC Mutual Life Insurance Company, and treasurer of the Foundation, and Charles C. Amey, Field Representative of the Foundation at extreme right. The announcer and commentator was WDNC staff announcer Norfley Whitted, standing behind microphone.
