Description
This rocky outcrop of millstone grit made the ideal vantage point to watch the morning sunrise filter its way into the lower level ground mist. Once at the summit a 360 panorama on a clear day up to 30 miles in all direction. Such a beautiful morning, didnt see a soul the only thing i was missing a flask of coffee. A mornings work i wont be forgetting in a hurry. The crag was formed due to the softer adjacent strata of shale and mudstone eroding at a faster rate than the hard wearing millstone. The crag is one of the best climbing locations in the area. Some classic climbs include Parsons' Chimney , Black Wall Eliminate and Wall of Horrors . From 1998 to 2005 it appeared in the opening titles of the ITV soap Emmerdale. Each series of the Beiderbecke Trilogy ends at Almscliffe Crag.
