Rookie Mike Heath (L) and manager Billy Martin confer with starting pitcher Dick Tidrow on the mound in the 7th inning of game against the White Sox. Tidrow was relieved by Sparky Lyle. Owner George Steinbrenner, taking personal charge as he promised in his club's moment of crisis, set in motion a series of moves which sent All-Star catcher Thurman Munson to the outfield made Heath the regular catcher and Reggie Jackson their designated hitter.
