Description
(Original Caption) Before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, these girls reached the limits of their mechanical experience when they operated dial telephones and radio sets. Now they may be seen working on power lathes, behind the flames of welding torches and on the work benches inspecting freshly turned steel. They are being paid by the Government to learn the trade and later will take men's jobs as part of National Defense. In this photograph, Josephine Guercia and Josephine Cataldo are shown doing a gas welding job, as they learn how to weld with torches.
