(Original Caption) One of the first flying triangles, the Northrop YB-49 Flying Wing, is shown banking for a turn over Southern California back in 1945. The 100 ton experimental aircraft, which never went into production, contibuted much to the development of today's Delta Wing Aircracft. The Flying Wing, which appears thin in flight, was actually seven feet thick and housed the fuel tanks,control compartments, and crew quarters, as well as the eight turbo engines.
