Description
(Original Caption) The final-polished 94-inch primary mirror is inspected prior to application of the reflective coating. The cellular hollow-cored structure of the primary mirror provides for maximum lightweighting. Solid facesheets cover the structure. During final shaping and polishing the approximately one-ton primary mirror was reduced to a weight of about 1,825 pounds. The Optical Telescope Assembly for NASA's Hubble Space Telescope was built by Hughes Danbury Optical Systems, Inc. ca.1990.
