Artist's Description
(Original Caption) Minnie Johnson, 79, of Gillipsie, gets instruction from Bruno Massa, firearms instructor with the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department here. Massa was also the former ballistics engineer with the Olin Corp. Staunton Police Chief Eric Pingolt says, "we want to impress on them (women), that they should only use guns if they have to. We don't want them to walk away thinking they should drop any man who comes to the door. Part of the problem is that in rural areas, the nearest officer may be 40 miles away. We haven't really had too many incidents where women were solely involved as victims, but in two cases, women who were involved said they didn't have guns, and planned to get them."
