Artist's Description
(Original Caption) July 17, 1961 - Karisruhe, Germany: Straining mightily, America's Willie White jumps 21 feet and 1/4 inch to break her own two day old American broad jump record set in Moscow, at the U.S., West Germany meet. The only other U.S. victory was by fellow Tennessean Wilma Rudolph in the 100 meter dash. The West German track and field team defeated the American girls 66-38.
