3/1/1914-Santa Monica, CA-ORIGINAL CAPTION READS: As a novelty in journalism, Glenn Martin, City Editor Howard Morton of the Los Angeles Examiner and Staff Photographer E. J. Spencer reported the Grand Prix automobile race at Santa Monica from the air. Martin flew over over the field at a height of 500 feet, 70 miles an hour. Many sriking photographs were taken from the plane.
