(Original Caption) 9/7/1943-Regensburg, Germany:Tucked away in a bend of the Danube near the Austrian border at Regensburg,the Germans had built a mammoth aircraft factory which produced their latest type fighter,the Me 109G.On August 17th,a large formation of flying fortresses of the eighth air force,attacked the plant and severly damaged it.This picture was made by a cameraman in one of the big bombers during the height of the attack.Nunbers of fighting planes on the ground were destroyed with the factory and 140 German planes were destroyed in the air.Cost to the Americans;23 fortresses missing,at least four crews of which were saved.
